Galactic Racer Party Size and Matchmaking

Check Galactic Racer’s three-player party limit, why a two-friend party may wait for another racer, and how tours, spectators and AI-filled races work.

Quick answer

At launch, Galactic Racer supports parties of up to three players. A fresh race needs another unique player to be searching: if your party has two people, the FAQ says a third player outside that party is needed to start a new race. The developer plans a six-player party limit in an early update, but that is not the current limit or a confirmed release date.

Party size is different from race capacity

A party is the group you bring into matchmaking. The race field includes other players and can include AI racers.

Why your two-person party may be waiting

Matchmaking first tries to place you in an existing race with empty spots. When no suitable race is available, it needs the independent player described in the FAQ before creating a new one.

For two friends queuing together, the party itself does not satisfy that outside-player condition. A delay at this point does not by itself prove a server outage or a crossplay failure.

  1. Check that both players are searching for the same online mode.
  2. Let matchmaking look for a race with open slots.
  3. If it must create a fresh race, wait for the required player outside your two-person party.
  4. If a connection dropped mid-race and your original party did not restore, compare that separate symptom with the known-issues page.

Joining a tour as a spectator

The developer says a Multiplayer Tour or Podracer Tour that has already started may admit you in Spectator Mode. You enter with appropriate resources for the next race. Matchmaking prefers the same region, but can search across regions when local players are unavailable.

Empty positions in a race can be filled by AI. A full-looking race is therefore not evidence that all 12 speeder slots or all eight podracer slots are human players.

What has been announced for later

The developer is aiming to raise the party maximum to six within the first few weeks after launch. This is a plan, not proof that six-person parties, a private lobby or a custom-race selector are available today. Check a published update before arranging a larger group.

Frequently asked questions

Can all 12 racers be in my party?

No. The launch-day party maximum is three, while 12 is the speeder race-field capacity.

Are six-player parties already available?

The checked FAQ describes six as a planned update. It does not announce that the increase is live.

Does starting in Spectator Mode mean I joined the wrong mode?

Not necessarily. The FAQ says an already-running Tour may admit you as a spectator until the next race.
