A field limit is not a party limit
The launch-day FAQ confirms parties of up to three players. A six-player increase is planned for a later update. The 12- or eight-racer field can include AI, so it does not establish the number of friends in your party. The party and matchmaking guide explains why two friends can still wait for another player.
Solo and local play remain separate
The story campaign is single-player. The developer interview confirms no split-screen. Podracing progression is another separate condition if your goal is to reach the campaign’s pod events.

Frequently asked questions
Does every race use 12 racers?
No. The confirmed upper limit changes to eight for podracers. An upper limit also does not guarantee every lobby is full.
