Why offline does not mean two-player
The FAQ confirms offline Campaign, Scenarios and Arcade events. Those are connection rules, not a local co-op feature announcement. The interview’s split-screen answer addresses the separate question of sharing one display.
The developer’s explanation
In Traxion’s interview, Webster explains that dividing the display conflicts with the game’s visual and performance goals. That establishes the feature decision; it does not promise a future split-screen update.
Playing with friends instead
Use the online mode on supported platforms, with crossplay and the required friend/account setup where relevant. The field can hold 12 speeders or 8 podracers. Those numbers describe race capacity, not couch players or a guaranteed party size.
